He has long been compared with Eric Morecambe – particularly in the spectacles department – so it seems fitting that Jim Moir, better known as Vic Reeves, has been cast in the BBC’s new drama about Morecambe and Wise.

But Moir will not play Morecambe in the feature-length BBC2 drama, instead taking the role of Eric’s father George, while Victoria Wood – who also conceived the project – appears as his pushy mother Sadie.

Morecambe & Wise will chart the pair’s rise from children’s variety performers to much-loved television stars, with the story starting in 1930 and running until 1954 – the year of Running Wild, Morecambe and Wise’s first television series.

We went for a cycle around Rutland Water on Friday 13th August 2010. We happened to pick a pretty wet and dreary day, but we did it anyway. We did a circuit of about 23 miles, and it was probably raining for about 22 of those. This is my first crack at editing video.

Rough justice in America: Too many laws, too many prisoners

Rough justice in America: Too many laws, too many prisoners:
A more than slightly scary article on justice in America at The Economist (via @Hot_Chip).

Two Steps Away from a Free iPad

Two Steps Away from a Free iPad:
Or, rather, how not to be an idiot. From the F-Secure blog.

Victoria Coren - A Guttenfan writes

Victoria Coren - A Guttenfan writes:
@victoriacoren’s delightful tale of love and admiration on the quiz show floor.

Reykjavik mayor opens gay pride festival in drag

Reykjavik mayor opens gay pride festival in drag:
Reykjavik sounds like my sort of city.
It’s the weekend, one I’ve got to myself for most part.

I’ve been running twice. The running is going as well as it ever has, really. I’ve been spending most of the remaining time on my laptop working on a few different projects. The paulholloway.com website is one such project, which is a bit more contemporary in form and function. I’m also trying to get my blog ring, Leeds Blogs, into order whilst working on another, brand new, web-based project under way.

I’ve started a course on Final Cut Express 4, because iMovie is far too simple and because Final Cut Studio is too bloody expensive. I haven’t recorded any video yet, but I always thought the cart looked quite good in front of the horse. Just don’t ask me what videos I’m going to be letting loose on the internet once I’ve completed the course - some inspiration is missing thus far. That’s right - the cart doesn’t even have any wheels.

Yorkshire Day Quiz

Yorkshire Day Quiz:
Happy Yorkshire Day. Can you decipher Jarvis Cocker’s Yorkshire Day Quiz?

Best Goal Celebration Ever?
