DJ Rubbish - Proper Propaganda
There's lots to protest about in today's fukd up world and it's the Bush/Blair duo and our modern values that take the flack from DJ Rubbish. With tracks titled 'Tony Blair is a Bad Man' and 'Who Are The Real Terrorists?', DJ Rubbish tells it like it is. Read on...
Fusing lo-fi, 2-step, hip hop and downtempo beats DJ Rubbish (aka Shaun Pubis) creates a diverse sound but with one overriding message summarised as 'Wake up! Look what's happening to us!'. Rubbish uses his slick lyrics to make this listener question why things are the way they are and how we've allowed out language to be co-opted by Government and Corporations for their own ends with no regard for the individual or our spiritual well-being.
Artists protesting against the war seem to have been notably silent of recent, perhaps thinking that their careers would be at risk if they appeared to be 'un-American' or that saying what they think would marginalise them. It's refreshing to see that DJ Rubbish doesn't give an arse about any of that and lets rip on anything he feels deserves his attention.
Perhaps a couple of lines from 'Coming Right Out' sum's it up better than I can:
"The only key is to imagine a different way to be, and they're trying to steal our imagination and make it into a commodity. Do you really want that to be the way it bees. All them fucking idle thoughts your thinking about Big Brother and Survivor and all the way them things and Beckham's new hair cut and the way that's turned out. That's all shit man, that's wasting your fucking thoughtful spacing, you understand that's like freebasing"
